Raw Organic Cacao Nibs Information

The cacao seed (nut) is a fruit of an indigenous American jungle tree of which the Aztecs called “yollotl eztli”, which means “heart blood”. So revered by the Mayans and Aztecs that they used cacao beans as currency!

Raw organic cacao, whether it is the bean, nibs, or powder, is one of the world’s number one sources of magnesium, one of the great alkaline minerals. Magnesium rich foods support a healthy cardiovascular system, opens the heart, supports bones, returns us to our natural state of feeling (instead of excessive thinking), improves the relaxation potential of muscles, and is also great for women during their monthly cycle. Cacao reconnects us via intuition to the mystery of Mother Nature’s herbal apothecary.

Other minerals and vitamins in cacao include iron and manganese, both essential to the oxygen carrying protein haemoglobin, helping to avoid anaemic reactions, with cacao providing 314 percent of the recommended daily allowance of iron per 28 gram (approx. 1⁄4 cup) serving; chromium, great for diabetics and those wishing to support their pancreas and create blood sugar stability; manganese; zinc, which helps to activate thousands of enzymatic reactions in the body; copper; vitamin C, providing 21 percent of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C per 28 gram serving; vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, pantothenic acid (B-5), and E; omega-6 fatty acids; phenylethylamine (PEA), a class of compounds found in abundance in cacao that are a major class of chemicals that we produce when we fall in love – one of the main reasons why love and chocolate have such a deep connection! PEAs are an adrenal-related chemical, a slight antidepressant and stimulant similar to the body’s own dopamine and adrenalin, and also play a role in increasing focus and alertness. Another neurotransmitter called anandamide, known as the “bliss chemical” is released while we are feeling great and is also found in cacao.

Other nutrients and beneficial properties found in cacao include; tryptophan, an essential amino acid and powerful mind-enhancing nutrient; serotonin, the primary neurotransmitter in the human body and in nearly all living things, widely known to release happy hormones and help us build our “stress-defence shield”; monoamine oxidase enzyme inhibitors (MAO inhibitors), that allow serotonin and other neurotransmitters to circulate in the brain for longer; dietary fibre, so perfect for the human body that cacao can be blended, crushed, and micronized and will still help cleanse the intestines and bulk up bowel movements; methylxanthines (caffeine and theobromine), of which anywhere from zero to 1000 parts per million of caffeine, and usually about 1% theobromine, an effective antibacterial substance that also dilates the cardiovascular system, making the heart’s job easier (one of the major reasons cacao is an important part of a heart-healthy diet). Other cardiovascular cleansing compounds not mentioned include N-caffeoyldopamine and N-coumaroyldopamine and their analogs.

Cacao protects us from age-related health conditions and illnesses, as well as shielding DNA from free-radical damage.

All chocolate is made from cacao beans (also known as cocoa beans) – cacao is chocolate! All the antioxidant value, mineral benefits, neurotransmitter rejuvenating properties, and overall health giving qualities of chocolate are found in original cacao, confirming chocolate as just one ingredient, in its purest form – no sugar, no dairy, no chemicals required – simply cacao!

Once cacao beans are extracted from the pod-like fruit, purified water is then used to cleanse the beans where they are peeled and partially ground to form small pieces or “nibs”, or the whole beans are peeled and cold – pressed to form a paste, the bean’s oil is extracted, and nutrient-dense cacao powder is formed.

So if you really want to boost your antioxidant potential, turn to cacao as it has the highest concentration of antioxidants of any food in the world, including (the antioxidants) polyphenols, catechins, and epi-catechins, and by weight, cacao has more antioxidants than red wine, blueberries, acai, pomegranates, and goji berries combined.

Simply eat, or blend, or grind cacao nibs and mix with other superfoods such as goji berries, blueberries, raspberries etc. Cacao beans are the heart of the cacao revolution, chocolate in its purest form – simply peel and eat!
